OUR STORY
IT ALL STARTED WITH A CAMERA CALLED RED AND A GUY NAMED TED
HOW IT STARTED
Ted Schilowitz [co-inventor of the Red Camera] is interviewed by Tonaci Tran who both meet for the first time at NAB 2010. Red raised the bar for high fidelity digital cinema by being the industry's first digital cinema camera capable of recording 5K S35 in a small form factor. Tonaci was one of the first owners of the Red Camera.
Ted Schilowitz visits Tonaci in Vietnam to promote the Red camera and to experience digital film production in Asia. During this period, Tonaci's 4K digital production company provided services for 90% of Vietnam's feature film projects (20+ films).
4K 3D DIGITAL STEREOSCOPIC CAPTURE
Ted visiting camera prep day at Element Technica for the world's first independent feature film, Banshee Chapter (Executive Producer Zachary Quinto ‘Star Trek’), shot with Red stereoscopic 3d and workflow support from Tonaci Digital.
3D SNOOP DOGG
Tonaci's digital production company is hired by Nvidia for a 3D stereoscopic music video for Tekken feat. Snoop Dogg.
TED BECOMES A FUTURIST
Ted Schilowitz takes new position as the "Futurist" at 20th Century Fox to oversee digital and immersive strategy.
THE NEXT FRONTIER OF VIRTUAL REALITY
A small virtual reality startup company (at the time) called Oculus in Irvine, CA catches Ted's attention.
Through Ted's contacts, Tonaci experiences 360° video on a prototype Oculus Virtual Reality headset for the first time at a secret private suite at CES. A few months later, Facebook acquires Oculus for over 2 billion dollars.
Tonaci and Ted transition efforts from single stereoscopic 3d to full 360° video capture. Work began on 360° video systems and stitching workflows for high fidelity 360 video. Tonaci worked on a number of VR experiences for BMW Mini, Metallica and Google 360°.
MOVING BEYOND 360° VIDEO -> VOLUMETRIC VIDEO
360° video allows the viewer to look in any direction but does not allow the viewer to walk around inside of the video. Due to limitations of 360° video, development began on a brand new "volumetric video" software stack to enable next gen video with six-degrees-of-freedom.
On a mission to make the "holodeck" a reality, HypeVR/3nfinite was formed to develop volumetric video that will forever change how life is captured, how we communicate and how we will experience events.
360° VOLUMETRIC VIDEO BREAKTHROUGH
First working 360° volumetric video with six-degrees-of-freedom demonstrated.
